Frost Knives I'm attempting to make a birthday cake. The buttercream I made isn't sticking to the cake. Please help!
Chocolate cake, vanilla buttercream (homemade). Cake is crumbling under the frosting, though the frosting won't stick to the sides. It pulls off and stays on the knife instead. Is it too thick? Am I using the wrong tool? Is there any hope?
It sounds like your frosting is too thick. Thin it out using milk and only add small amounts at a time. I would also suggest freezing the cake before frosting. After that put a very very thin coating of frosting on the cake to seal the crumbs to the cake and refrigerate for 15 minutes, this will assure that the crumbs from the chocolate cake won't come up into the top layer of frosting.

Frost Folding Can someone please explain the concept of "folding" in cooking?
Yep, I am an amateur cook. One of the dishes I'm planning to make tonight is called "Frosted Walnuts". In the recipe, it says to "Fold toasted nuts into egg white mixture."
How do I do that?

With your ingredients in a bowl, you would add the nuts in. Using a cake spatula (the big plastic flat type that looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/MIU-4-Piece-Silicone-Spatulas-Pastel/dp/B0006IVZ1E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1230756187&sr=1-2 ) and in big heaping movements, you just fold it over. Literally, it's sticking the spatula like getting underneath, raising it up, the flipping it upside down.
Basically, you are trying to combine them in without doing whole bunch of stirs... just fold it over a few times. This is usually to prevent the main ingredient from losing its fluffiness which over-stirring can do.
Oh! You are using an egg white mixture. Yes, you will probably be aiming for making a nice super light fluffy-peaky type white mixture beforehand, then adding the nuts in. I'd say 5 folding over motions at the most! Do not overstir else it will fall flat.

It is very handy to have around and there are many different makers of these multi-tool. Swiss army knives are considered multi-tools. As well as the leatherman and Gerber tools. The tools in these Pocket Knives can very from a nail file to a can opener.
Leatherman is one of the most known maker if these but there are many more manufacturers of these tools that are not known for them. Like Coleman, Gerber Legendary Blades, Schrade SOG knife, the makers of the Swiss army knives, and Kershaw knives. Buck knives also makes a knife that is some what similar to the Swiss army knife and if of very good quality. I am thinking about making a buck antler knife from sheeded ones i found hunting in Idaho this year. i have the blade i just can't figure out how to get it into the antler
what you would do is the following. make a burr hole of the appropriate size then using a dremel widen it accordingly. go slowly and carefully with it so you do not make you're holes too large. using a good epoxy secure the blade into the hole that you created. wait for a couple of days for the epoxy to be compleatly dry and there you have it, a nice new knife.
