Cutlery Folding How do you fold a napkin around a knife, spoon and fork?
I am having a BBQ, I want to have the napkin, knife, spoon and fork all ready to go and in one bundle like in a restaurant type thing.
I have standard paper napkins and metal utensils.
How can I fold the napkin around the cutlery, I don't have the paper holder things though. Can it be done without?
Turn the napkin so one point is towards you, lay the knife across first then put the spoon on the knife and the fork in the spoon.
Take the corner facing you and fold across cutlery making sure it is tight ( a bit like rolling a cigarette ), roll and wrap twice then fold the left hand corner in to the center. continue rolling tightly, then give it a twist at the end.
If the napkins aren't up to much, you could get some colourful elastic bands, ribbon or string tied in bows to keep it all in place.

I understand that damascus sword steel was made by folding the strip of steele double , reheating, hammering, folding again and so forth hundreds of times. Was this the same or very nearly the same techmique the japs used making the sword blades the samari swords?(forgive the misspelling)
I am aware of the complications that must be involved and it would be intresting to learn more about them!
Damascus: A folding technique where the steel is folded over itself many (generally up to sixteen) times, leading to hundreds or even thousands of layers (one fold = 2 layers, two folds = 4 layers, three folds = 8 layers, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, etc.). More folds than sixteen are pointless, as the layers would become thinner than one molecule - which is impossible. This method was developed to removed impurities from the steel (it also removes carbon, which is bad, but can be compensated for to some degree), but modern steel is so pure that Damascus folding is no longer needed. It is now used for aesthetic reasons; Damascus steel looks really good; you can see the layers in the blade.
San Mai: Translates to "three layers". Layers of softer, lower carbon steel (or iron) is forge welded to layers of harder, higher carbon steel. The lower carbon steel forms the core (and sometimes the sides and/or back), and the higher carbon steel forms the edge. The hard edge will hold its sharpness, the softer core provides shock absorption; making the sword harder to break. Unlike Damascus, San Mai is still very practical. San Mai folds should be invisible; if you can see a San Mai fold the forging was flawed and the blade should be discarded - you'll have to trust your seller that the blade is San Mai - you can't tell by looking. San Mai can be revealed by etching the blade with acid, such as lemon juice, but I don't recommend trying this unless you know what you're doing; you can permanently stain the blade. San Mai swords are more durable (and more expensive) than simple blades. They are more durable (and usually less expensive) than Damascus blades. A blade can be either San Mai or Damascus, or it can be both; Damascus steel which is then San Mai folded. Very cool, looks good and lasts long.

My first attempt at roasting chestnuts ended with them exploding in the oven. I had made a small hole in each one with a knife, but am I supposed to cut them half open before putting them in the oven? when I opened the ones that hadn't exploded they were too mushy to get the shells off. I cooked them for 40 mins, is this too long? How do I get the perfect warm chestnuts that come straight out of their shell?
preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Make an x on top of each chestnut with a Sharp Knife. put them on a baking sheet in the over for about 15-20 until you can peel them easily (the corners of the x should curl up and you can just peel the shell away.)
The Chestnutter® is the remarkable new tool developed by Jasco, Inc., used to cut chestnuts to make them ready for preparation.
Using the Chestnutter® is as easy as 1-2-3.

Knife Super How old is my Schrade USA 171 UH uncle Henry Knife?
I have a Schrade Uncle Henry Super-Sharp, USA 171 UH. The tang has Uncle Henry in cursive on one side of the blade and serial number 77702 on the other side. Fixed Blade Hunting Knife? I have recently inherited about 1000 knives and no very little about any of them.
Thanks for your help.
I suggest purchasing a few good knife colectors books, or finding out if the person who left you the knives also had books as well. With that many knives, it seem likely he or she did. The books will answer your questions.
