Can I carry a wooden sword in NYC or must I put it in a bag or something?
Keep it in a sheath (or bag) and don't go weilding it in public.
Under section 120.15 (Class B
misdemeanor) of the New York Penal Law, a person carrying a deadly weapon in public could be charged with the crime of "menacing" in the third degree.

misdemeanor) to possess a sword.

Please note also that for a person to be able to posses a knife (not sword) in NYC, the metal blade must be 4 inches or shorter and the person must be a citizen 16 and older so make sure you are at least 16 if you plan to have it displayed in public for an event.

Ok... I use this for my Tae Kwon Do contests. Am doing Haidong Gumdo forms. Every time I make a Small movement its falls out. In The form Am working on Now I have to spin in the Air and cut someones head off... then put the sword away... The damn Scabbed keeps falling off. Hows the Best way beside makeing your belt tigher. (I tryed that and it works intill the Spin.)

If you have a sword of quality (doubted) then it will have come with a string and a hole the string fits through. Take the sword and put it between the belt and your gi. take the string wrap it over the outside of the belt, just as it would hang naturally. Then take it and put it between the saya and the belt on the back side over the top. The rope should be as though it could rest on the top of the belt in the bottom back side. Next wrap the rope around the inside bottom around the outside and all the way to the top of the belt. Tuck it in to the belt from the topalong the back. That is the traditional way to secure the saya to the obi.
You could always not spin with the sword, as I would hope you don't also throw it in the air.
